Eric (Ric) Pohland

President and Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Ric Pohland currently serves as President, and Chief Operating Officer for American Security Programs, Inc., (ASP).  In those roles, he develops and leads ASP's strategic direction and initiatives to achieve company objectives and goals, ensure high-quality security operations, and grow the business.  He oversees all contract operations to deliver operational excellence and to secure vibrant company repute.  Ric leads a Corporate HQ Staff of 23 personnel across operational and functional areas (Personnel/Human Relations, Finance, Contracts Administration, Quality Assurance/Compliance, Safety, Logistics, Operations, and Facility Security Office).  Additionally, Ric serves as a Board Member on the Virginia, Dept. of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), Private Security Services Advisory Board, and as a Board Member of the National Association of Security Companies (NASCO).

Ric joined ASP (and the SecurAmerica Group of Companies) in 2015, having previously served as President of Coastal International Security, Inc.   He served initially with Coastal as Center Operations Director at NASA Kennedy Space Center, FL, where he directed the NASA contract providing full emergency services—fire, security, ambulance, and disaster prep/response, and served as On-scene commander to all major incidents.  Following the NASA contract, Ric moved to the National Capitol Region, serving as Coastal's Director of Operations and then as Vice President of Operations.  In these positions, he directed Coastal's contract operations (peaking at 31 individual contracts valued in excess of $500 million dollars), led the corporate staff, and oversaw policy and procedural development and review across operational and support functions. 

He has developed and implemented multiple programs and processes to strengthen business operations and secure operational success.  Ric revitalized contract compliance; assigning corporate compliance execution and oversight to Program Managers and Operations management, driving substantial improvement to company compliance and client assessment.  He oversaw the planning, budgeting, forecasting and implementation of financial controls to drive financial profitability and performance, and established new internal support elements to include Contract Administrative Support and company Safety Council.  

Prior to joining the Private Security Services Industry, Ric served for 25 years in the United States Air Force (USAF), and has vast leadership, security and management experience.  As a career Military Police/Security Forces Officer (Colonel), his background includes; Command and staff assignments, Armed/Specialized Security, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Operations Management, Quality Assurance and Compliance, and Leadership Development.  He served in multiple senior level assignments culminating as Commander of the Air Force's (and DoD's) largest base -- Eglin AFB, FL (724Sq miles).  He held five 'command tours' (organization's senior executive) in the USAF in positions of increasing responsibility and complexity to include; Command of AF's largest installation; Command of AF's unique Force Protection and Contingency Response Group; and was handpicked to command the 3 of the USAF's largest SF squadrons (Air Force One responsibilities, AF's largest training Academy, and a nuclear security unit).  Ric additionally served in multiple executive level staff positions including; Director of Security for USAF's largest Major Command, and Chief of Assignments (Human resources) for USAF Security Police (1,500+ officers).  Key USAF positions included:

  • Wing and Installation Commander, 96th Air Base Wing, Eglin AFB, FL
  • Director, Security Forces (SF) Air Combat Command (ACC), HQ ACC Langley AFB, VA   (Assignment also included duties as; Chief of Staff, Nuclear Response Task Force)
  • Commander, 820th Security Forces Group – Moody AFB, GA   (To include; Commander, 732 Expeditionary Mission Support Group, Balad Air Base, Iraq)
  • Commander, 89th Security Forces Squadron – Andrews AFB, MD   (Including security of 'Air Force One')
  • Commandant, Joint Services Law Enforcement Academy/USAF Police Academy and Commander, 343rd Training Squadron, Lackland AFB, TX
